I wouldn't the word "retarded" in this story at all if I were writing it today even though it's totally in character for Filby to say it. I'm changing that dialogue when I remaster the book for reprints.

Philia's stand up routine is obscured, but it goes: "WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH PHILOSOPHERS? WHAT DO THEY FILL AND WHY O SO FAR?"
